The Lions, Calgary Rock Band Doing Good
If you’re wondering where The Lions have been and what they’ve been up…where have you been? Get on our new http://www.facebook.com/thelionsfb! Two showcases at SXSW, the “worlds biggest outdoor show” The Calgary Stampede opening for Our Lady Peace, showcasing at New Music West and releasing a new double album Iconoclastic to rave reviews. The Lions aren’t showing signs of slowing down all of this in under 5 months! The final Calgary gig of the year is at Cantos! for a double album release and doing good by helping with and instrument drive for The Legacy Children’s Foundation.
The Legacy Children’s Foundation
The Legacy Children’s Foundation works with other groups and foundations in Calgary to help kids stay away from gangs, drugs, violence and substance abuse. They do it in a unique way by encouraging people to pick up instruments, or take part in dance and other art-forms that promote a positive change in a persons life. If you would like to help the foundation carry out their vision you can make a difference by dropping of an instrument of any kind at a drop station located around Calgary. For more information on Legacy please head over to their website at http://www.legacyfoundation.ca for information on dropping of instruments please head over to http://www.thelionsrockandroll.com/2011/08/legacy-childrens-foundation-donation-drop-off/ So far we have received 3 guitars and one amplifier so thank you!

The Lions opening for Our Lady Peace
If you missed The Lions at The Calgary Stampede opening for Our Lady Peace for a second time you can check out all the footage on our new YouTube Channel TheLionsTube http://www.youtube.com/thelionstube. We played songs from the new album Iconclastic as well as old favourites from Sounds Familiar, Live Love Love, Rock N Roll Lounge (Sessions) and New Rise Of The Footsoldier. Click on the playlists section of our YouTube channel and have a listen and view from there! We would like to thank Malissa Dunphy at X929 and the staff at Union Events and Tooth Blackner for making this happen for a second time.
One Weekend Only
We first opened for Our Lady Peace back in 2009 at Wildbill’s in Banff for One Weekend Only and it was a crazy weekend. We never actually got to meet any of the members on that gig but before our set in 2011 we were able to chat with Steve, the lead guitarist of Our Lady Peace, while tuning up. Very nice very cool and very down to earth guy, we’d play with these guys anytime it’s always a good time. The Lions and The Sheepdogs Austin, TX
This year we played two showcases at SXSW and also landed another festival while in Austin,TX called RedGorilla. At the time we had no idea who we were playing with and said hello as we always do and then went on after The Sheepdogs and played our set after. Although The Sheepdogs never stuck around to watch us play we caught up with them later in the day and had a drink with one of the members, the drummer I think at the pub. For all our SXSW experiences you can start with this http://www.thelionsrockandroll.com/2011/03/the-lions-band-in-austin-texas-day-1-of-6/ I stopped writing after day 3 because there was to much fun to be had.
